NICOLA DAVIS - SILK CRAFTS

I am a self-taught artist from Wiltshire and have been painting on silk for 7 years. When I first learnt this technique, I was initially drawn to the speed at which the paint spreads on silk, and mesmerised by how it flows with a mind of its own without the use of Gutta or Resist. I have specialised in this medium ever since, creating wearable art on silk scarves, silk paintings, silk painting kits and silk accessories such as ties, bows and sun catchers.

The inspiration for my designs comes from my difficult past, having battled and beaten anorexia and living with depression. I use a bright palette of colours and am drawn to portraying the beauty that can be found in nature. Flowers and botanicals that I find on dog walks often inspire my next silk scarf, and when visiting the British countryside and coastline I always return with a new design in mind hoping to capture the peace and tranquillity found in these settings.
